Wendy and her partner, Rob Nicholls are the faces behind local arboricultural contracting company, Greenscene Arboriculture Ltd, and have been involved with the Trust in a professional capacity for many years. Rob and Wendy have two teenage daughters.
Being self-employed has offered Wendy the flexibility to be involved in a voluntary capacity with several organisations since her children were very young. The roles have varied in nature initially fundraising and administrative support for Creative Napier, Treasurer of Plunket Play Group and PTA and BoT involvement at Napier Central School. The Trust’s advertisement for a Trustee caught Wendy’s eye and she registered her interest in becoming involved.
Being a 5th generation Hawke’s Bay-ite (Wendy’s great great grandmother, Mary Jane Villers, was reportedly the first European baby born in the bay) Wendy has a real interest in the history of the region and, together with her involvement in the arboricultural industry, this sparked interest in the Guthrie Smith Trust. “It aligns so well with other aspects of my life…the outdoors, education, history and environment”, says Wendy.
